Hello and welcome to the First Presbyterian Church of Sussex!

It’s a joy to have you on the website where you will see a snapshot of life as part of First Presbyterian Church of Sussex. On Sunday mornings for worship, you will find a traditional Presbyterian service, with hymns from our hymnal, a mix of unison and leader-only prayers, and a time to share what’s happening in the lives of people in the church community. The entire worship service is centered around the Word of God read in Scripture and proclaimed (almost always) in a sermon. The church is part of the Presbytery of the Highlands of NJ and the Presbyterian Church (USA).

The community of faith at First Presbyterian Church of Sussex is built of Christ seeking people striving to follow Jesus’ example in his earthly ministry. The community is built of humans coming together, which means it’s not perfect, but there is a greater connection with one another when we’re honest about our humanity than trying to be seen as perfect or completely put together. Children are welcome to stay in worship for the entire service, or they can go play with other children in our nursery room, under the care of a childcare professional.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Elders (the church members who volunteer their time to lead the congregation) made the decision to add a virtual worship option. This option to attend the service live via ZOOM continues today. The services are also added to the YouTube and Facebook pages after the fact to allow anyone to worship with the congregation at any time.
